The largest new town situated in the western part of Singapore, Jurong West covers an area bounded by the Pan Island Expressway, Upper Jurong Road, Boon Lay Way and Jurong Lake. The town is served by Lakeside and Boon Lay MRT stations, as well as the Boon Lay Bus Interchange. A future light rail system, the Jurong Regional Line, will extend beyond the current end point of MRT’s East-West Line to further enhance residents’ accessibility to other parts of Singapore.
In the past, Jurong West was mainly dominated by swamps as well as a thick jungle. During the 1960s, the area was developed into an industrial estate from which a vibrant housing estate grew. Today in Jurong West, there is a comprehensive range of amenities suitable for both work and play. Jurong Point Shopping Centre serves as the pulse of the town in part due to its close proximity to the Boon Lay MRT station. Singapore Discovery Centre, Jurong Bird Park and Jurong Crocodile & Reptile Paradise are among some of the favourite Singapore tourist attractions located in Jurong West. The town is also home to Raffles Marina, a clubhouse, and Nanyang Technological University.
